Sex Fact #148

The Hymen: The opening of the vagina is covered by a thin membrane of skin called the hymen. When you have sex, this hymen breaks (if it has not already broken) and some girls find that they bleed. Years ago, it was thought that the presence of the hymen was the only way you could tell if a girl was a virgin. Nowadays we know that the hymen is fairly fragile and can be broken easily through sport and/ or the use of tampons, so it is no indication of virginity.
